Proper Tipping Etiquette

Proper Tipping Etiquette

Tipping etiquette needs to be considered when you avail certain services, for example, hotel or spa services. This article comprises a few general tipping guidelines to be followed in a hair salon, spa, hotel and restaurant, or simply for a pizza delivery.
SocialMettle Staff
Tipping is an act of appreciation that is shown by you for the services rendered by any facility. There is always a set of proper tipping etiquette that has to be followed when we go out to restaurants, hotels, spas, hair cutting salons, or any other places. Giving a tip according to the set considerations will certainly prevent embarrassment for that particular situation.
At a Hotel
When you stay in a hotel, you have to avail services from several different personnel. Hence, the tip varies according to the services required and availed. If you are tipping a bellhop in a 5-star hotel, USD5 for each bag is a decent amount. For lower-end hotels, USD1 or USD2 per bag is appropriate. Make sure the total given to a bellhop is at least USD5. For the person who delivers your car from the valet parking, at least USD2 should be given. It is not mandatory to tip the person who takes the car away for parking. For a concierge, USD5 is the minimum amount, which can even go up to USD20 if he provides additional services. A tip to a doorman for opening the door is not to be given; however, you can just say a 'thank you'. If he helps you in arranging for a cab or handling the luggage from the cab, you can give him USD2 to USD3. Housekeeping professionals can be given USD2 to USD5 daily.
In a Restaurant
How much you need to pay depends largely on the quality of services provided by the server or the attendant. However, there is a standard amount for general services that you can get in almost every good restaurant. In a restaurant, it is suggested to give a tip of 15% to 20% on the bill. Simply note that the tip should be on the amount excluding the coupons, discounts, gift certificates, etc. It is better if you give 20% on the amount, if you have come along with a group of eight or more people.
At a Wedding
Tipping also has to be considered while dealing with wedding vendors and coordinators. Even here, it depends on the services provided. A limousine driver can be given any amount, but not more than USD150. The hatcheck staff can be paid according to the number of guests, somewhere between USD.50 to USD1 per guest. The amount for music DJs can range from USD50 to USD100, and for the photographers, around USD50. You can also give 10% of the total commission to the wedding coordinator.
At a Spa and Salon
At a beauty salon, there are many services availed, and each service does indeed deserve a tip. A good spa tipping conduct is to give 15% to 20% percent of the amount charged. Do not miss out on the shampooist, stylist, masseuse, manicurist, and other people. The tip should at least be a dollar for their services. While thinking of massages, you are not required to tip. However, if you do not, the massage giver could think that you are not happy with his massage.
For Pizza Delivery
When it comes to tipping a pizza delivery person, a tip of 2 to 3 dollars is suggested. However, if he has delivered about 20 or more pizzas, a minimum 10% on the total bill is expected to be given. There are many times when the order is not what you asked for, the delivery takes much time, or similar other things. In such a situation, you need to take in mind that it may not be the delivery boy's problem. He still deserves a tip for the delivery services he has provided.
Following the proper tipping rules for services availed, helps the service providers to assess the quality of their services, and also aids the individual workers to feel appreciated and get some additional income.
